Stage 1 of Canberra Metro, the city’s light rail network, opened in April 2019. Stage 2 will extend from the city via Parkes and Barton to Woden, and will be built in two stages. Stage 2A will extend from the city to Commonwealth Park, on the shore of Lake Burley Griffin, and will be 1.7 km in length. There will be stops at City West, City South and Commonwealth Park, with services to begin in 2024. Stage 2B will extend from Commonwealth Park to Woden. Possible future routes include lines to Canberra airport and Belconnen.
