The C Set trains operate as four-car sets, with a driving motor car at each end and two trailer cars in the middle. Two sets are combined to form an eight-car train. Entering service from 1986, they were the first Sydney suburban trains to be fitted with Chopper control, which provided smoother acceleration. They entered service as K Sets but were later re-targeted as C Sets. The C Set trains typically operate on the Airport, South, Bankstown, Cumberland and Olympic Park lines. They are maintained at Flemington depot.
