The W6 Class was built as sub group of the SW6 Class but later became a separate class. These trams are among the last of the W series of trams that formed the backbone of Melbourne’s tram fleet from the 1920s through to the 1990s. Number 1000 remains in service on the City Circle route and is allocated to Southbank depot. Most of the remaining class members are stored.
