Pacific National ordered 50 of the 94 Class units. Although the first arrived in 2024, it was not until mid-2025 that they commenced service. They were designed and manufactured by UGL and feature General Electric’s Evolution Series 12-cylinder engines. With greater fuel efficiency than earlier Pacific National locomotives, each member of the 94 Class can reduce carbon emissions by around 300 tonnes annually. Service includes interstate intermodal operations on the Australian Rail Track Corporation network, and will include the Melbourne–Brisbane Inland Rail line. Delivery of these units is likely to see withdrawal of older locomotives in the Pacific National fleet.
