Comalco obtained two locomotives, numbered R1001 and R1002, for use at Weipa in Far North Queensland. They were based on the Western Australian L Class. Both units were later sold, with R1001 being renumbered L277 and used for lease in New South Wales, while R1002 was renumbered as Lw276 and then LZ3120, and used in Western Australia.
