Originally in service with Union Pacific in the United States, the first nine units of the SD90MAC-H Phase II Class were purchased by Fortescue Metals Group in 2011. Their original EMD 265 engines were not successful and they were re-engined with less powerful EMD 710G3B engines. They are used for iron ore haulage in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Numbers 910–917, which had also operated with Union Pacific were obtained by Fortescue Metals Group and arrived in Western Australia in 2014, but are awaiting scrapping.
