Seventeen TR Class locomotives were built in the United States, and all entered service with TasRail in 2014. Their weight is able to be modified for service on the Melba line by removing a one tonne block from each of the four corners and restricting the amount of fuel carried. They now operate most of Tasmania’s freight train services.
