The X’Trapolis 2.0 trains entered service in May 2026. They were manufactured by Alstom at Ballarat. While the earlier X’Trapolis 100 trains were designed as three-car sets, the X’Trapolis trains operate as six-car sets. An initial order for 25 sets was later extended to 50. Each set has capacity for 1225 passengers. New features included wider doors to facilitate faster boarding and alighting, enhanced air suspension, passenger information displays showing the journey in real time, and improved accessibility. X’Trapolis 2.0 trains entered service on the Upfield, Frankston and Craigieburn Lines. They are maintained at the Craigieburn Train Maintenance Facility. The arrival of the X’Trapolis 2.0 enabled the staged withdrawal of the Comeng trains from Melbourne.
