The XRN Class entered service in 2010 with mining company Xstrata, and then came into the ownership of Glencore when Xstrata was acquired by Glencore in 2013. They share the C44aci production model that is in service with various freight operators in Australia. A total of 30 XRN Class units were in service by 2012, representing Australia’s largest fleet of C44aci units. They operate in Hunter Valley coal haulage. Glencore was purchased by Genesee & Wyoming Australia (now One Rail Australia) in 2016, and the XRN Class locomotives have beeng repainted from Glencore livery to the orange of One Rail Australia.
